How to Place a Linked Word Document in Adobe InDesign

In my last tutorial I showed you how to place a Word document into Adobe InDesign, but did you know you can link it too? This means that when you save the Word document the content will update in InDesign, so if your content changes you don’t have to did into InDesign to make those changes.

InDesign has this feature turned off by default. So, first, we need to open our preferences (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) and go to ‘File Handling’.

Then, check the box that says ‘Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files’.

And that’s it!

Now, when you import your Word document, you’re going to notice it show with the link symbol you may be familiar with when you import images, and it will show up in the links panel.
