Adobe InDesign: How to See Your Images Outside of their Frame

In Adobe InDesign, all images have frames. The frame can do a lot of things, but mostly it’s used like a clipping mask. Your frame can be larger or smaller than your image, and that can be very helpful when you’re creating your layouts.

But if your frame is smaller than your image, you may want to still be able to see your image outside of this bounding box. If you’re moving it around to get a specific part of the image in frame, it can be super annoying to have to guess when that part is. You might even make your frame bigger, and then resize it around the object you want to be visible.

When you click on the big circle in the middle of your image using either the move tool or the direct selection tool, you’ll see a bounding box showing you how big your image is, but not your image itself.

Instead of clicking the circle once, click and hold it for a second (without moving your mouse) to see the rest of your image. Anything outside of the frame will be semi transparent, so you can easily create that rest of your layout.
